2.  Figure out how you can do what you want to do and get paid for doing it.

3.  Contact your local Small Business Development Center for source materials and counseling.

4.  Project out the costs for three years.

5.  Project the earnings you'll make for three years.

6.  Take a worst-case scenario of if's ....   and make sure you've got enough capital to get you through it.

7.  Take a class in business management at  your local technical college.

8.  Load up on self-confidence and step into your new business with aplomb.

9.  Contact your local SCORE office (Senior Corps of Retired Executives) who can provide you with a mentor.
