  1. We just built a house also and laid st. augustine sod on top and kept it watered. It is doing great but our water bills are sky high. You need to get started so it can get established before the frost. You can also hydro mulch Bermuda.

  2. .Develop a good game plan on design first and for most.

Once you have an idea of how you wish it to look then you can proceed. You want to bring in all the big stuff first, rock, mulch, bolders, sprinkler system. The last thing is the sod, working your way out. This way you don't destroy your new lawn.

I have included some sites you may wish to look at designs.Another option would be contact a local HS or community college to see if there horticultural class could design "free".

I do concrete walls, flatwork, landscaping and with each a good plan is needed.

  3. If the ground is very hard be sure you till the yard first, otherwise the grass wont get enough air to grow quickly..Since it's already August I would use sod instead of seed..Using seed now will take forever because of the heat..Sod will cost more but you will have an instant lawn..If you can't afford to sod and use seed..be sure you keep the ground moist at all times..If you can put in a sprinkler system now would be the best time, since you are starting from scratch..A sprinkler system is not expensive if installed by you..and it will lower your water bills for the lawn since it will be more effective.you can find books or magazines at Lowe's Or Home Depot on how to install systems...Good luck
