MAny people want to work for themselves but insurance is not the easy way to do it either. Now contact your state licencing body and ask about requirments to get your licence. Next it could take years year and years to open your own brokerage. It takes money and exp. If you want to be taken more serious work for a brokerage for a while get your license and get some Higher Designations to extend your knowledge on the inner runnings of a company, and make contacts with companies over years sometimes they will be alot more easy going if they like you haha. Kissing some *** never hurts when you wanna make money haha

The insurance company you are selling for should provide upto date training courses for brokers/agents, the tools you need, and help you apply for or renew lincences, etc. Some companies even charge tied agents or brokers.

With no experience it will be next to impossible to be contracted with any property / casualty insurance company to start up an independent agency.

In the contracting process, the insurance companies want to know how long you've been in business, how much annualized premium you have on the books, your levels of Errors and Omissions coverage. They also want to know your experience in years, and in loss ratios.

The best thing to do, if you want to write property / casualty insurance is to get some experience by applying to a captive company where you will have an employee / employer relationship. They will train you, and support your efforts.

State Farm, Nationwide, Liberty Mutual, Metropolitan, American National, Allstate.

Nationwide agents are independent agents after their trial period.

You may also may want to talk with an independednt agency about going to work for them. If you are the person they are looking for to work for them, they will help you in the licensing process, and train you.

It varies by state.  At the very least, you need to take and pass the state licensing test, then find a company willing ot let you sell their car and homeowners policies.

The second part is almost impossible, if you are new to the business.
