  3. Research your business online, and check out other shop owners in the area. See if you have a niche' where you are or if some one is already doing what you want to do. Good luck!

  4. Depends where you live, I know in canada they give grants to women who start there own businesses. There are many steps to opening a business and depending if you want to have a home based business or not some hoops to jump through. The best advice i can give you is to call your local government. We have a small home based business and we only had to contact our city hall and our provisional (state)government but if you get into larger things you have to deal with somethings federally. Try typing starting a business and your state/province into google that's what i started with. My provincal goverment had packages they sent out that showed me step by step what i had to do and where I had to go. Good Luck!!

  5. Having an online shop would be the simpliest option, secure payment and working rom home still.

You could of course run it concurrently with home parties and so on.

We could deal with everything design based for you at a very competitive rate. We offer setup start packages for logo, stationery & website, probably cheaper than you think.

Drop me an email if you need some advice or a no obligation quote. The shop would be completely updatable by yourself, postage and payments easily handled and once you pick it up honestly its not that difficult.

  6. Hello Sara,

You can start your own business, don't let anyone discourage you! From a business opinion, I would say to start online. Not only do you save alot in overhead costs, but your customer base will be worldwide, not just on a local scale.

You are a wife and mother, you can build a successful business in your spare time and work as little or as much as you want. It is not get rick quick! With hard work and dilligence you can make a great business for yourself and family.

There is a great program that helped me build my business. It is called SBI. It has helped my find my passion and niche in today'e market and has helped me in building my own web-site and business. If you would like more information you can contact me at genesee@the-chocolate-spot.com

Good Luck! I hope that I have been helpful to you!

  7. You already have too much on your plate!   Running a business is more than a full time job - I know, I do it.

  8. First thing is to sit down, maybe with hubby, when kids are in bed and write some things down on paper; a simple business plan if you like.

Where are you going to sell? A shop, from home or mother & baby clubs?

Where are you going to get the items (stock) to sell? Make them, buy them from wholesalers? Where are you ging to get the money to buy the stock? Savings, parents, hubbys' wages, bank loan?

These things all need to be planned.

Don't let this put you off but it needs your head not your heart to figure out these things.

What do your friends with babies buy? What's new? (label blankets, that's one simple idea). Be good if you could make things, if not would you like to learn? All you need is sewing machine, maybe overlocker and some material (and time)

My wife made two children's Saris (Indian wrapover things) for a junior school thingy. When people saw them they all wanted more made to buy! I am sure there is money in it.

Oh yes the grant. Some local councils gave £1000 to start up a business. You had to attend a few meetings and I doubt if they give them out willy-nilly. Contact your local council business section (just 'phone the switchboard and say what you want. Get your plan first though. Don't bother about websites yet, just try and get something going first, there's always Ebay!
