How do i stop a download on a macbook so i can shut it down?

this download has been frozen on "5 seconds left" for hours.....i don't know hw to make it stop, i don't even want it to freakin dowload anyway! HELP!!! this is a macbook btw!

Click the Apple icon in the upper left corner and choose Force Quit. Select whatever program is downloading the file (probably Safari or FireFox if you were downloading off the net) and quit it.

Then you can shut down.
