  1. One of the most important things is to have a smooth surface as has been pointed out. second you need to use very hot but not boiling water that makes the decal slide free fast and set quick. cold water leads to problems. Next you should use a setting solution with care. they melt the decal into the paint. Do Not Touch it once it is wet with solultion. It will be destroyed. The next day spray a light coat of clear coat, Gloss for a new car, Semi-gloss for a street car, and flat for a used car. You can use Future Floor Wax to polish the glass parts and keep them very clear and scrach free. Buff the tires to keep the gloss off them and you will have a very good looking car.  I have been building for museums for the last ten years and this works. Keep the water very warm and you should be able to use even old decals, adn do not touch them after useing a setting solution. I use Solvaset, but Microset or Superset as it is now known works just as well, better for some decals.

  2. Testors makes a clearcoat, use one very light coat, then once it dries, a good top coat, and rub it out with rubbing compound, or very fine grit sandpaper, 1200 to 1400 grit. I used it for years, and it works fine. Theres a chemical called decal set too, it softens the decals up while your placing them so they will lay down on curves even better. Look for a Hobbytown USA or look online for one they have all your modeling needs.

  3. Taz has it right...

FIRST apply a coat of TESTORS clear-coat gloss to provide a SMOOTH surface for the decals.

SECOND use products from "MicroScale" to properly seat and set the decal.

THIRD apply a second coat of Clear-Coat to seal the model and protect the decals.

Clear-Coat also comes in semi-gloss and matte for those building aircraft or armor which aren't shiny like a car.

    GOOD LUCK

  4. several coats of clear dope should do .
