  1. Well you can never pratice enough putting, but if that doesn't help you could pay for golf lessons. If you don't want to pay for lessons you could pay for a better putter. If you already have a good putter or you don't want to pay money for one then I would suggest that when you have your first put actually try to get it in instead of trying to just get it close that is a lot of golfers problem with putting. Don't forget pratice a lot.

  2. Hit the ball closer to the pin.

  3. To expand on the post above me, you really have to start with the tee shot.  Put that shot a comfortable distance from the pin, for me it is between 120-150 yards.  That is my comfort zone.  From there I hit the appropriate shot on the green to a comfortable distance 12-15 feet, sometimes closer, sometimes not, and try to obviously put it in, but if not, leave a lag no longer than 3 feet.  I work more on my lags than the long putts.  It is a lot easier to put it 3 feet from the pin, than in the hole, so I spend a lot of time on 2-6 footers, which are the putts that take strokes of your round.  For you, maybe just visualize a circle around the hole, and aim to get the ball in the circle on the longer putts, once in the circle, hit the second putt, which you will be able to do if you practice those lag putts on the practice green.  Work on the approach, and from there, work of getting your first put inside your circle, then hit the lag putt and VOILA, par.........

  4. sink your first or second putt

  5. Three putting is more mental than anything.  The putting stroke takes the least amount of athletic ability.  First, you must have positive thoughts.  They always say, the hardest thing to do is to two putt.  Appears you are more focused on two putting than making your initial putt.

I would spend a lot of time working on short putts for confidence and then work your way out to long putts.  Practice all different types of putts.  Have confidence.  Also, if you have a playing partner who can help you read greens then that would help.  Reading greens can be tricky.  Also, learn how to read the grains on green that can speed up or slow down putts.  When looking directly over the cup, the clean side (where cup is cut into green) is the top side of the grain.  The ragged side is the down grain side.  This might help you on both short and long putts.

  6. I'm sure someone has already said this, but focus more on the speed of the putt than the line.  If you can get the ball to stop anywhere within a couple feet of the hole, there is no reason you should have to put it over 2 times.  If you are playing for a break, play the break out a little wider and hit the ball a little softer, always remember that in case you miss, make sure its not over or under 2 feet from the hole

  8. i hate a three jack as much if not more than anyone. when my rounds are goin bad like that i quit tryin to make any put over 15 ft or so and just try to lag it to within 4 ft or so of the hole. remember on a long put you want the ball to just trickle in. good luck!

  9. Practice putting from 3 feet and closer.  Typically a lag putt is left 3 to 5 feet short.  So that would be the perfect distance for you to practice putting from.

  10. Go to the practice green. Putt balls from all angles. If you leave some short of the whole, finish the putts. Work on them from 3-4 feet away, first.

  11. Focus less on the line, more on the speed.  Once you begin to properly gauge speeds on greens more then working on your alignment becomes much more important.

  12. This is going to not going to sound quite right, but you need to get your shots to the green in a position where a two- or one- putt is actually possible. So in addition to practicing putting (always a good idea), you need to practice your short game and shorter iron approach shots.

  13. Practice putting from 3-5 feet from all angles.  Once you are making 90% of those putts, move out to 15 ft, then 20, then 25 and so on all the way out to 50-60 foot putts.  Lag the long putts to the 3-5 foot mark.  If you can do this consistently, you should eliminate your 3 putting.

  14. practice
