i bought her from an ad i saw. I don't know if the previous owner was mean to it or what. But i've had it for 3 months now. It still bites. the only thing it'll let me do is let it on my finger. ever time i try to pet it, it just flys off my finger or bites me, then flys away. every time i get near it to pick it up it makes a weird clicking noise too, opens it's beak, and makes its hair stand up. sometimes it gets on my finger other times it flys away or bites hard. and i let it free roam my bedroom, but every time i get ready for work or to go to sleep. i have to chase it everywhere til' i finally get it so i can put it in it's cage and shut it. what can i do about this trouble? first time bird owner...

  1. i think you should talk sweetly to your bird. let it know you love it and also your not going to hurt it. i think the last owner was mean to it and your bird might be having trust issues

  2. Not too many birds like to be petted. Especially if he isn't familar with you.  Well you could get his wings clipped until he is used to you.  You can buy little parrot play areas that you can put on the top of the cage. Parrotlet are small birds, just  make sure you don't step on him. His wings will grown out in time if thats what you want.  I think he would be less aggressive if his wings were clipped. He won't hate you just have someone else do it.  A vet. Sometimes smaller Pet shops do it.

  3. Pletts are touchy birds.  You say you got it from some one else well why did they get rid of it?  Was it a breeder or just a reg person.   You  see Pletts are very sweet birds when handled daily every day a lot a whole lot.   Now if it was just a regular person you got it from did they get rid of it because they did not have time for it?  If so then there is your reason.  Plettes tend to revert to their wild state very easily and then they become demons.  I mean they can be the meanest nastiest birds alive.   If it was a breeder and you got it as a baby then you just may have gotten a bird that does not like to be handled there is always 1 of those in every clutch. but in either case keep interacting with it resting your hands on and in the cage as well as praise for it.  Good luck

  4. Its a newer bird to you so its gonna take awhile. Try to work with it as much as possible. Best thing to do is keep the cage closed and talk to it in a nice soft voice. When you open the cage let it come to you. When you put your finger near to let him "step up" say the words step up in a more stern voice. Not yelling. When he does this make sure to praise him GOOD BOY! and give him a treat that he likes and doesnt get in his food. When he bites try to ingnore it. Dont make a sound or jump. Its hard but birds usually bite to see a reaction. If you dont show him any reaction after awhile he wont even bother. Some birds simply dont like to be petted. After you clip his wings you will deffinetly have better luck. If he runs away give him a few minutes and then try again. Never force a bird to do something cuz you will come to find that it never helps. Also when he bites you can try a technique after you get his wings clipped that helped me. When you have him on your hand and he bites simply drop your hand about a foot downward not too fast but fast enough it scares him. You can also do this when you see him about to bite. By doing that in the future when hes thinking about biting he will remember that and most likely wont do it anymore.  Good Luck and I hope I helped
