He is litter trained all the time, except when i am in the bath when he decides to do it in the bathroom. He has done this 3 times now, and it is not pleasant, and it's hard to catch him at it when the only warning you get is the smell! The litter tray is right outside the bathroom, i don't understand why he won't use it! I know i could just shut him out, but i don't wan to just solve the behaviour that way in case it crops up in a different form

  1. Try changing the brand of litter. Also cats sometimes don't go in the litter box if it isn't clean and there is to much p**p and pee because the litter gets solid and there is nothing for them to dig in. My cats do it all the time. You should also try to get a covered litter box because maybe your cats wants to do its business where it is private, since the litter box is in the hall he might not feel comfortable and then he wants to follow you into the bathroom.  You could even try moving the litter tray into the bathroom. Hope this helps, your cat just sounds really finicky about where he goes to the bathroom. Good luck!

  2. Many Reasons not using litter box.

I have had kitties and dogs for the past 40 plus years changes in behavior especially the litter box usually means a health problem, best to check that first before you move to anything else. In the past a few pets of mine had a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) and one had diabetes and stopped using the litter box, one of my other kitties had inflammatory bowel disease and she stopped using the box, as you can see many reasons.  Have her check out soon as you can. GOOD LUCK

  3. He is definitely trying to send you a message!  It could be that he's trying to tell you that he doesn't like to poo in the same box he pees in (very common, most cats are like this).  Could be he's telling you that he wants his litter box cleaned (also common, some cats won't go if there's another poo in their box from before).

If you've got two boxes for him and both are clean and he still makes a poo in the bathroom, pick up the poo with a paper towel or toilet paper, put it in his box, put him in the box, let him get a whiff of it, and take his paws and show him that he needs to cover it up because that's where poo goes.

    Good luck!

  4. My kitten would do the same thing... only on the carpet. We had his litter box in the bathroom, so I don't know what was going on. But what we did to stop this behavior was

    1. When he didn't use the litter box we would take the p**p and put it in the litter box.

    2. Scrub the area with a Pee eliminating solution to get rid of the smell.

    3. If you do happen to catch them yell No! Cats don't like loud noises or spray them with a spray bottle full of water.

    4. We also gave our kitten treats when we saw him use the litter box!

    Good Luck!

  5. When he poops anywhere other than the litter box, pick up the p**p, put it in the litter box, then set the cat in the box and scratch its paws around in the litter. thats what i did.
