i've had this nasty habbit since like...5th grade...and im almost 21 now.

its horrible.

my lips are scabbed and swollen & i CAN'T stop.

i've tried EVERYTHING.

chapstick doesn't work, lipgloss doesn't work, snapping myself with rubberbands doesn't work, putting gross tasting stuff on my fingers doesn't work, my doctor even tried putting me on an OCD medication for it.

NOTHING is working.

im tired of having red swollen bloody lips all the time.

  1. Tell all your friends to yell at you if they see you doing it. Reward yourself for every hour you go without doing it, then every 2 hours, 3, 4 etc.

I did the same thing when my physio told me to stop slouching, if I did it my friends would poke me in the back. It'll take a lot of will power mostly.

Oh and I've heard of nail polish for people who bite your nails that tastes fowl, putting that on your nails might discourage you from putting your hand to your mouth.

  2. First, chapstick and lipgloss are making it worse.  The job of those products is to create a barrier on your lips to keep moisture in.  What it also does is keep moisture out.  I would suggest rubbing vaseline into your lips before you go to bed.

You may also want to try a professional product like Mary Kay Satin Lips.  It is a 2-part system consisting of a mask and a balm.

This product also cleared up small blackheads I had around my lips.  Once you start taking care of your lips, they're going to look too beautiful to touch!

Shipping is free on the website below and the product is guaranteed or your money back, so it's even better than the drug store!!

  3. I had this problem with pick the skin around my fingernails and what worked for me was sticking my finger tips in hot pepper juice. It first made me aware that I had cuts because it burned so I didn't want to make it worse and then I didn't want the taste in my mouth after they healed. Over time it got better I still do it occasionaly when I'm nervous but its so much better than before. So try putting pepper juice on your lips.

  4. That sounds really painful :[

I don't really know of any other methods, but you have to put your mind to stopping. As soon as you find yourself starting to pick, stop.

You have to have the will power to train yourself.

You have to want to stop.

  5. if you've tried all those things, and they don't work, then i doubt we can help you.

you might just have to realize, that if you don't stop this, then you'll be this way your whole life, and from that you should realize that you just have to stop, no matter how much of a habit it is.

  6. Maybe if you put something disgusting tasting on your lips, like flax oil, something horribly bitter, then you'll be less tempted to bite them.

  8. Well, if it's a habit then there's not much advice we could give to help you. At least advice that's not short-lived. I suggest seeing a professional. That is what most people do to break habits like sucking their thumbs, or other things. I hope this helps.
