  1. You can buy some type of keep away spray. That or buy some traps.

  2. Get yourself a good dog.  And have him sleep outside.  We had a cockapoo a number of years ago just a tiny little dog.  It pulled the tail right off a skunk one night.  Found it in the yard.

  3. We have them too, even though they make a mess of the lawn, they are digging for grubs and they eat them, which will save your lawn.  Also, think of it this way, they are aerating your lawn.  We used to get upset about them being there, but not now, we have learned to live with them and feel they are doing us a favor.

  4. Spread bug killer on the lawn. They are after the fat, juicy bugs in the ground. I did that once, and my wife called to say that there was a riot of birds on the driveway. Yep, the bugs escaped to the pavement only to be devoured by the birds.

  5. Get yourself a scarecrow.  It worked for us to scare away rabbits, deer, racoon and other animals.  Be advised that anything that scares a skunk might smell different.  Our Central air AC  unit outside scared away a skunk when it came on one night and the back of the house stunk for a few days after that.

  6. They are probably digging up your lawn to get some fat, juicy grubs to munch on.  This is the perfect time of year to treat your lawn with grub killer.  I live in Massachusetts and Sevin is the proper product to use.  Ask at your local garden center what is appropriate for your area.

As a side note, those grubs will mature to Japanese beetles, so killing the grubs will also reduce the population of flower munching Japanese beetles!

    Good luck.
