  1. First try spraying the insides of all your boxes and luggage rather than the items you take, unless you already know they are badly infected. There are various kinds of sprays in aerosol cans, try to pick the kind that is designed for use against roaches. Some sprays are lasting, so after a few days the area sprayed is still a deterrent.

Of course you should try to be very clean in the kitchen and avoid leaving scraps of food or crumbs about. I used to make a regular "kitchen patrol" of cupboards and shelves, but now the roaches have mostly gone except for the occasional visitor. These fly in and before they get settled in they are usually rather easy to find and not very able to run to the "best" places.

Big cockroaches are very noisy! At night in a reasonably quiet location if you listen carefully you can detect them, so after settling in to a new place, try to locate them and spray the places where they are known to like.

  2. Clean your home everyday-they usually like dirty places

Avoid leaving left-overs-they are hungry for these stuff

Occasionally spray roach-killer in the dark corners of your house-to prevent them from ever coming back, spray at least every two days.

Clean up the damp places in the house-to destroy the roach eggs, they usually lay eggs in dark and damp places

Close up the holes-roaches come out from these places, before closing put mothballs in it and spray roach-killer before closing it.

That's all i can think of

    Hope this helps...

  3. Burn everything and start new. They lay eggs everywhere and they can be on anything you might take along! You might be able to take clothing to a laundry matt and run them through a couple of cycles with a strong detergent. But your furniture would be a definite carrier!

  4. I partially agree with another answerer who stated to simply buy new things. I moved into a brand new home from an old, roach infested place. I continuously battled roaches in the old place, and it wasn't my fault. They were there when we moved in. As for your bedding and upholstered furniture, that should be ok. However, you may want to set them outdoors on a sunny day and give them a good cleaning and airing. Take your bed apart to make sure no roaches are hiding in the little slots in the bed frame.

As for small kitchen appliances, I started over. Roaches had even invaded my microwave oven control panel. I tossed it out and bought a new one. Throw away old knife blocks, toasters, electric can openers, etc. Roaches will get into the crevasses of these items and set up house there. I know it may be difficult to throw these items away, but you have to decide if you want to spend your money on a few small things, or spend it fighting roaches for months and years to come.

Before you move into your new place, buy some boric acid. "Roach Prufe" contains boric acid. Follow the instructions, and generously place the dust under kitchen sinks, your stove, bathrooms, and in the corners of kitchen cabinets and other dark hidden places. This is not a fast acting poison, but it is a long term killer. Any roach that walks thru it will carry it back to the nest.

With a little foresight and a little money, you can keep your new place roach free. I'm in my new place for 3 years now, and havent seen a single roach. It was worth throwing away a few insignificant items to be completely rid of those nasty things.

  5. Get some roach spray from a home improvement or big box store, spray your new place well while nothing is there, spray all around your old place before you start packing.  Spray often at the new place, any thing that goes with you will die once they crawl out at the new place because you have pretreated it well.  Good luck.
