Its really starting to bug me and i dont know how to get rid of it, i really hope its not a virus. See, its like a website that pops up, i know that sounds weird, but thats pretty much wat it is. Anyways, its this www.aim.com/pointrollads.htm----etc and it comes up very randomly. i am an AIM user, but im not sure this website has much to do with the "aim" im familiar with.

if u know anything about it, please let me know!

  1. well firefox sure as h**l wont fix it, I have firefox and Im having the same problem, so are alot of people, just started in tha last 3 days since we updated aim. Im sick of people thinking firefox fixes everything geese, they dont understand that there is the same amount of people trying to protect viruses as there is people making them.

  2. why don't you try Yahoo pop-up blocker

  3. Well, it's hard to say because there are so many possibilities here. However, I'll list the most general yet effective steps you can take to rid yourself of those popups.

First off, does this popup open even if you don't have Internet Explorer (or whatever browser) already open? If so, there's a high chance that it's being opened by an adware program which is almost as big a pain as a virus. If that's the case I suggest downloading a free application called Ad-Aware Personal and run it afterwards. It will scan your computer for any adware programs and prompt you of what it finds and remove them if you choose to.

    Ad-Aware:

If this isn't the case, it may actually be AIM's statup page that's opening although it doesn't sound like it. However, you can check AIM's preferences by going to Edit at the top and selecting Settings. On the left there are several tabs, click on Sign in/Sign out and there should be the option "When I sign in display the following". Make sure this says None and then click Save at the bottom. Restart AIM and check to see if it happens again.

If this all happens when browsing the internet and only when you enter certain websites then you'll need a popup blocker addon. You can look into these for whatever browser you're using by simple searching on google for "popup blocker". I recommend using Firefox 3 as your browser since it comes with one already and it's very effective.

    Hope this helps!

  4. It may be spyware so run SuperAntispyware from download.com to remove any adware and spyware that may be causing the pop-ups.

You should also browse with Firefox 3 its 100x better then internet explorer: http://www.mozilla.com
