  1. To avoid doubles you first need to remove all the music in iTunes - DO NOT ERASE IT!!!  Highlight all your music in iTunes and then go to Edit - Delete.

With your hard drive attached and all of your music copied to it, go into iTunes preferences.  From there click on "Advanced" then in the "General" section click on the "Change..." button for the "iTunes Music folder location"

Navigate to your music folder on the external drive and click "Open".

Now go back to "file" "Add to Library" to put your music back into iTunes - only now your listening to it from your external drive.

Remember to do this with a copy of your music and don't delete the music in the default location until you have completed this, tested it and are listening to music from your external drive.

    Have fun!  Mistress Dolly
