Question:

How do i take of my 89 ninja oil filter it unscrews but it will not come off the exause is in the way thanks?

  1. I have a Kawi, and by no means should you have to remove anything other than fairings to replace an oil filter.  I have changed the oil many times, and the filter should have an easy access point after the fairing is removed.  Make sure your unscrewing the oil filter and not another part.


  2. It sounds like you are either unscrewing the wrong part, or you need to remove the exhaust to take the oil filter off.

    You havent mentioned what size the bike is, however, I have worked on many kawkas and not had any problem like this.

  4. There is enough clearance to remove the oil filter without removing/loosening the exhaust.

    Perhaps you're trying to unscrew the filter completely with the oil filter wrench still on the filter.

    Remove the wrench, finish unscrewing the filter and slide the filter out the side, between the pipes and engine.

    thats the OIL COOLER,,,  not the oil filter!!!!
