  1. I didn't teach my birds to fly to me from a book. They learned to do it simply because they love following me all over my apartment when I'm home. I leave the room, they come after me. They'll land on my head, my shoulder, my hand or any other part of my body they can get a grip on.

    They're spoiled.

Spoil your bird by taking it from room to room with you, and giving it treats along the way. After a while, start NOT taking it. Believe me, if you play your cards right, that bird will come LOOKING for you.

  2. If you're a beginner bird owner, then you'll have to wait for years if you want your bird to fly to you. If you are a beginner conure owner, I strongly recommend that you clip your bird's wings and spend at least two hours of daily interaction with it -- this interaction includes caressing, cuddling and direct (one-on-one) talking. For right now forget about teaching your bird to fly to you, right now you have to focus on establishing a bond with your bird -- there are many books and some really good info available for this on the Internet; some serious Googling will get you there fairly easily, so do it.

There's no book as such on training a parrot to fly to its owner since it's an acquired behavior, embedded in the bird's psyche over years of good times. After some years when the bird is bonded to you strongly enough (you'll know it, so I don't need to explain), you may want to try out a parrot harness -- it's like letting your bird flying on a leash. You can start training your bird to fly towards you with a parrot harness -- but it will require immense patience on your part, at least a few years even if you do your best.

And by the way, search "parrot harness" and you may find some relevant results for training your bird to fly to you. Hope that helps...

  3. I worked with a magician who performed with birds a lot. To start, he ONLY feeds them from his hand. They learn to associate him with food and want to be near him all the time.

After they are happy to eat their meals from your open hand, you can start putting distance between you and the bird at feeding time so he will have to fly a short way. After he gets that idea really well. You can start using a hand cue to tell him its time to eat (you can pick any thing a snap, a "come here wiggle of the finger..anything)

Now it's just a matter of doing it all of the time and from different distances. Just always be sure to have some food with you until he does it regularly. Then you can start feeding him in his cage and giving him his favorite treat or a scratch behind the ear as an award.
