I have a 2 yr old draft cross i am training to drive. I want to show him in pleasure driving classes but he needs to know how to prance more at the trot. How do i teach him to do this? I was told to use hobbles on his front feet but i thought hobbles just prevented a horse from running. please help

  1. You can ground drive him at 2, but don't ask him to pull any weight until he's older.

To get him to pick up his feet more and have a "showier" trot (as I think this is what you mean), the best way is to ground drive him over poles, preferably raised six inches on one side and dropped to the ground on the other.

No offense to whoever told you to use hobbles that is dumb and dangerous. A horse shouldn't be worked in hobbles.

  2. Get a dressage trainer to work with you...prancing is a collected gait with suspension that is taught in dressage and a few dressage lessons will go far to help you achieve it.

  3. PUNCH IT IN THA FACE! and tell it too@@@@ =] jk i have no ideer

  4. NO hobbles

  5. take him to a dressage trainer or a race horse trainer or an english trainer they could help you :)

  6. hobbles is a bad idea no offense but he is really young so you can still work him but push him forward while trotting so pull him up and he will prance!
