How do i tell if a tampon is full?

Question

the thing is everyone says if the string is red. but the string on mine is red and i take it out and its only about half full?

help?

It's fine to change your tampon before you need too.  This is much, much better than leaving it in too long, which can lead to Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS).

Ideally you should be changing your tampon about every 4-6 hours and using the smallest tampon that will last that long comfortably.  If your tampon is only about half full after 4 hours than you should change to a smaller/less absorbent kind.

It's a very bad idea to use a more absorbent tampon than you really need or to try to go longer than 4-6 hours with the same tampon.
