  1. Have a look at the rubber boots to see if damaged.

    Drive slowly forward and backwards on full steering lock and listen for loud clunking.

  3. THE MOST COMMON TELL TALE SIGN IS CLICKING WHILE TURNING OR AT U TURNS ALSO ANY TORN GREASE BOOTS WILL ALLOW CONTAMINANTS OR ROAD DEBRIS IN TO THE BEARING IN THE C/V JOINT AND RENDER IT USELESS, ITS  USUALLY A 150.00 FIX PER SIDE.

  4. It usually starts making a tapping noise as if something was hitting up against something else. If it only happens when you turn, it may only be a ball joint or tie rod. Any mechanic can usually tell by a quick inspection.

  5. visually inspect the cv boot, if its torn its out.

    grab the cv shaft and wiggle it. if it wiggles its out.

    drive test it. if it makes noise like clicks when turning, its out.

    if the cv shaft is out or disconnected , its out.  

  6. The vehicle won't move or it will only go to one side or the other, depending which shaft has been removed
