How do i tell if my wheel bearings are bad?

a horible sound especially when i turn my wheel left

  1. jack it up and if the wheel shakes, the wheel bearing is bad.


  2. jack the car up and hold the spring with one hand and spin the wheel with the other hand.  you'll feel the vibration through the spring if the bearing is bad.

  3. Remove and clean the bearing and the race. Check them for indications of wear or burnt areas. Both surfaces should be very shiny without any scoring or scraping indication. If they look in any way bad, change them. If not, regrease them and reinstall them and torque the nut properly.
