my last department at the library got shut down so my boss in another department to hire me after i wrote him an email. during an interview he told me that he will carry over my hourly wage from my previous job and give me the same pay. however my pay is more than a doller short of how much i used to make.

Either he forgot or he has other reasons after finding out i make a lot more.

so how should i tell him appropriately without sounding too cheap or blunt, in a email?

  1. Dear  Mr  Xxxxx ,

I  regret  to  advise  you  that  payroll  did   not  get  the  correct  info  on  my  pay  rate .

Per  out  interview  it  should  be  $ XX.xx  but  it  is  short  $ Xx.xx .

How   long  do  you  anticipate  it  would  take  to  remedy  ?

Thank-you  for  your  attention  to  this  issue ,

    Sincerely

  2. Just say it like you did here. Do you have the email which states that he made that promise? if so you should remind him and show him a paper trail.

  3. How about calling instead?

"Joe, I was looking over my paycheck and may rate of pay is 1.00 instead of the 2.00 we discussed...could there be a problem in payroll?"

Coming from HR, it sounds like he did not submit the right paperwork. I hope that does the trick for you!  Good luck :)

  4. Ask in person.  Best way to approach the situation is to explain that you believe your pay is incorrect and to ask him/her to help you understand it.  Sit down and talk it over.   There may be a couple of variables that you hadn't taken into consideration (taxes, work week, benefits cost) of which he/she may be able to shed light on.
