Hi, im trying to text a south african mobile and not 100% sure im doing it right. Do i just remove the 1st 0 and add the country code?

The mobile number is 07145 23XXX so would that become 0027 7145 23XXX?

If not please let me know.

Thanks in advance

  1. Whenever dialling a number from the UK you always need to insert 00 on the front because that instructs the telephone network to direct to the international exchange, then once it's there it needs to know which country to route the call to. Having done that it's then sent to the local number.

BTW - I never bother with a "+" symbol instead of 00, whether for mobiles or not. It's easier for me to type 00 and it works just the same.

It's the same the world over - with 00 being standard for international exchanges. If, for instance, you were dialling back into the UK from anywhere else, you'd key 00 and then 44 (for UK) plus the number (leaving the first 0 off the local code, of course).

  2. Yes, your correct.

    I always put the 00

  3. With mobile's it's a little different, you would generally replace the 0's with a +, for example

    Was 07145 23xxx (Locally)

    Now +27 7145 23xxx (Internationally from a mobile phone)
