  1. Another word for it would be "post". A little metal post that the bobbin fits on.

    Is it this machine?

    http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41...

On the top of the machine all the way to the right, is a pin. Pull up on it to make sure it's fully extended.

Pull the thread from the spool, around the little metal button on top of the machine and to the left, onto the bobbin and then put the bobbin on the pin. Leave a little tail of thread coming out the top of the bobbin.

Shift the pin to the right until you feel it click.

Turn the hub of the handwheel towards you until you feel it loosen.

Hold the tail of thread and depress your foot pedal. Don't go too fast because it'll wind unevenly and that can cause puckering on your work.

When the bobbin is full, it should stop spinning. Cut the thread, shift the pin back towards the left and remove the bobbin from the pin.  Re-engange the hub in the middle of the handwheel by turning it away from you.

    The bobbin is now wound.

  2. Raise the presser foot.

Raise the needle to the highest point by turning the hand wheel (pull the top down towards you, turning it anti-clockwise)

    Open the bobbin cover.

Pull a little thread off the bobbin, so you have a 6" tail...

Lie the bobbin down so that the thread unwinds anticlockwise...

Place the bobbin in the machine this way up.

Hold the bobbin in place with one finger while you hook the thread round and into the tension spring (at the side or back: there is a little notch to help guide you, and you should see the flat leaf spring)

Thread the top thread and needle, being careful not to miss any thread guides, the take-up lever (that annoying 'nodding donkey' that whacks you in the eyebrow!), or the tension mechanism...

Holding BOTH threads towards the back, turn the hand wheel anticlockwise until the needle has gone down into the bobbin area and come right back up again.  You'll see the thread pass over the top of the bobbin...

Make sure both threads lie out towards the back of the machine and you have about a foot of tail threads hanging out.

Close the bobbin cover.  You are ready to sew.

If you fail to get the bobbin thread into the bobbin thread tension spring, the machine will give very loopy stitches.  If you fail to thread the upper thread properly, especially the take-up lever or the tension mechanism, you will get a birds nest snargle of thread wrapped round the shuttle (this is the thing that goes round, carrying the upper thread round the bobbin to form the stitches).

It will be well worth the expense to buy a manual for this machine.  It will teach you exactly how to thread it, what to do about cleaning and oiling (VERY important!), and help you trouble shoot minor problems - and we all get those!

    Happy sewing!

  3. I checked Singer's web site to see if they have the manual online to view for free. Unfortunately, you have to purchase it.

Click on the source link if you want to order it.
