  1. Your best best is to try some of the resources available at the following sites:

    www.genealogy.com

    -or-

    www.rootsweb.ancestry.com

Both can give you some pointers on where to begin and help you to sift through some of the info you find. Good Luck!

  2. Go to Google and look up family history

  3. google em or try genes reunited and gather as much info from your family as possible good luck (hug)

  4. The website Geneology.com can help track family tree. Have fun!

  5. Are you looking for the living or for the deceased.  You won't find living people on a genealogy website as that is considered an invasion of privacy and can lead to identity theft.  There are a couple of sites that are not genealogy that can be helpful, Yahoo People Search and Zabasearch.com.

  6. Try www.familysearch.org

  7. You don't say where in the world you are, but it doesn't really matter because if they are living then you will end up continually bashing your head against a brick wall after being quoted the Data Protection Act over and over again.  Official government agencies are like that.  They'll quote a few rules at you and hope you'll go away.  To get absolutely anywhere in this field requires persistance.

Your first stop in the UK would be to try www.192.com and try and search both the online phone book or the electoral roll.  Neither method is foolproof because (a) not everyone has a landline (b) many of those who do have a landline are ex-directory (c) not everyone is registered to vote and (d) it has been possible for some time now for households to "opt out" of the commercially available roll you see on the internet.

This is when the enterprising people start considering social networking sites like friends reunited, bebo, myspace or facebook and see if they have an online account.  Certain people can be traced more easily through their professions.  Even a builder who trades under his own name should be findable under his business address in the yellow pages or similiar.  People like doctors and solicitors and even teachers can be found on their organisations websites these days, as can local councillors.  There are certainly some living people you could find in a standard google search, but not many.  Most websites are quite strict about people not revealing details of the living online, not least because it is quite easy for identity thieves to use this info and go out and get birth certificates and passports, get loans and open bank accounts etc.
