  1. You can try Cucusoft Mpeg/Mov/rmvb/DivX/AVI to DVD/VCD/SVCD Converter Pro which is easy to use and very fast. It enables you to convert and burn any video file directly to VCD, DVD, and SVCD. And it has great video edit function. So it becomes an all-in-one VCD/SVCD/DVD Creator. And it has been optimized for 64 bit CPU.

You can download this software free from here:

Here is a step by step guide about it:

  2. Most people want to edit.

It depends on what kind of camera it is. It depends on your computer. If your DVD writer is standalone (not connected to yuor computer, you need a 4-pin to 4-pin firewire cable (Firewire, IEEE1394 and i/Link are all the same thing). If you your camcorder is not miniDV tape based, it came with some AV cables that you connect to the DVD writer. It will be analog - Video quality won't be so good. Use the instructions that came with the DVD writer.

If it is a real camcorder using a computer:

MiniDV tape: You need to connect with a Firewire cable from the DV port of the camera to the firewire port of your computer and import with MovieMaker (Windows) or iMovie (Macintosh). USB will not work.

Hard drive or flash memory card: You need to connect with a USB cable from the USB port on the camcorder to the USB port of the computer and copy the files. Bring into MovieMaker (Windows) or iMovie (Macintosh).

DVD based camcorder: Place the finalized DVD in the drawer loading DVD drive of your computer and rip the DVD using HandBrake. You may also need ISOBuster. NEVER put a minidisc in a slot loading optical drive - you will break the drive and scratch the disc.

Analog camcorder (Hi8 or VHS-c): Using the AV cables, connect the camcorder to an analog/digital bridge (Pinnacle Dazzle for USB or Canopus for firewire). You can use this same method for DVD camcorders if you do not have a drawer loading DVD drive on your computer. You can use this same method for miniDV tape camcorders if you do not have a firewire port on your computer. You can use this same method for hard drive or flash based camcorders if you do not have a USB port on your computer.

When you are done editing, save the file - then you will use WinDVD (Windows) or iDVD (Macintosh) to create menuing and render the video to the DVD.
