I've got microsoft onecare installed and its messed up my settings, now other computers can access my computer and my files, how do I keep my computer hidden.

I can't change it through the normal 'network and sharing centre' page, or through 'onecare', which, by the way, is absolute bull5hit.

  1. This will vary depending on windows version.

Go to start (windows button) > network connections > right click your network connection and go to properties > general > uncheck the box which says "file and printer sharing".

To remove your shared folders as a precaution, go to network places and delete any folders from your computer.

If you just mean hidden on the internet then any personal firewall will do this. I recommend Zone Alarm free, as it's simple and free.
