I've tired FN+F2(f2 has a wireless sign on it)

  1. Here is a link to your manual.

The Fn+F2 should work if you have a wireless connected to the multiport.

Go to start control panel and system and device manager, and see if you can see the wireless card listed, do you have the correct drivers installed- make and model of wireless card would help. Is there a wireless icon in bottom Rt corner (like a television with radio waves coming out of it)

If so Rt click and click on enable

  2. mine has a switch, so I would look for something like that first, if not then I would say that it likely already on, or the drivers are not yet  installed try looking on Compaq's web page for a Manuel or at least a FAQ

  3. look on the sides or fron of ur aptop and there should be a swith on it to turn the wierless on or off

  4. is there a button on the router which says Wireless or WiFi. I personally have a SpeedTouch router which has a button on the front under the WiFi Light. Then check your computer's wireless and you should be able to connect then.

  5. i somewhat agree with 'the ghost' on this one - after turning wireless on have you then attempted to connect to your router?

cos there's no reason why your pc would magically know which wireless router in the area is yours, nor would it know the required security code - all this will be covered in the routers manual which is available from the manufacturers website.

likewise windows' help section will tell you how to connect to a wireless router.

  6. F2 works on some, on others it's f4. But it depends on the operating system and how things are set up.

Try going into the control panel (from 'settings'); there should be something for 'wireless' and how to turn it on. If not it might be under 'network'.

Also check under 'system' and hardware devices to make sure the hardware is working and enabled.

Check for a downloadable manual in the support area of the compaq website. (www.hp.com)

  7. Saying 10 pts to the best answer is always an irritation. Like yeah, isn't that the normal ! If you really want to impress, how about 10 bucks to the best answer, or 60 bucks an hour, which is what I charge to my tech support clients, and I'm cheap, believe me.

Ok, for some "free" help. Do any other computers connect to the router either by network cable (Cat 5) or wirelessly, Is your wireless network card recognised and working properly in device manager? If so, is there a switch on the laptop outside to turn it on? Third, when you scan for networks, do any appear? Fourth, if so, what happens when you try to connect?

If it doesn't appear, connect your laptop to it by Cat 5 cable, find the default gateway address using IPCONFIG via a command prompt (cmd at a run window) - then type that into your browser address bar, log into the router control panel and ensure the SSID is set to broadcast publicly. If it isn't then it won't appear in the list when you scan.

The SSIS /password are usually printed somewhere on the router.

Also are both the router and network card set to use compatible protocols, ir Wireless G or A/B or N?

    Or just call a pro.
