  1. You can tape record it.And after class, you can communicate more with you teacher. You can also make some native Chinese friends and take some free courses on line.

  2. Tell your teacher to speak slowly and if you still can't understand, switch to a Chinese teacher that can speak English.

  3. i am chinese ,and if you need help ,maybe i can help

  4. Can you tape record it? If so, seek help from Chinese speaking people when you re-play it, I am sure they are willing to help.

I am Chinese & if someone asks me, I am happy to share my language with them. Good luck & hope you will learn more about the language.

  5. If you're in beginners Chinese, the teacher shouldn't only speak in Chinese. Since you are  native English speaker, classes should be taught in English.

Just ask what he/she means.  If it because a major problem, ask to switch to another teacher.

  6. Just listen closely. As you begin to pick up words and sounds (phonemes and whatnot), your teacher will begin to make sense. I'm glad to see your teacher is speaking mostly Mandarin to teach you and not only English.

It's the same as in any other language you can learn. Until you know which sounds make up a word, it won't make any sense to you. Just stick with it, it'll start coming to you.
