How do i unlock the radio on a 1996 honda accord?

the radio locked when my battery went dead. i need a code to turn it back on

There is no default code, try the following.

1. Look in glove box for small sticker with numbers, should be 5 digits with numbers no greater then 6.

2. Pull out the ashtray and see if the sticker is on the back of there.(older models that have them)

3. Pull radio from dash and write down radio serial number and call local dealer with that number and they will be able to get the code for you. They will ask verifying questions.

4. If you happen to have all the books from the dealer look in the 'HONDA SERVICE HISTORY' book, NOT the owners manual. It should be on the first page in the AUDIO CODE box.

If it is the original radio.....the Honda dealer can give you the code if you give them your VIN  Most dealers will not charge .   Sometimes the previous owner has written inside the owners manual.

If you dont have the five digit code for the radio you can remove the radio and get the serial number off the radio(its on a sticker on the top or bottom of the radio) and go to a dealer with proof of ownership of the car and ID and they can pull the code for you.Look under your underhood fuse box lid-under ashtray-inside wall of glovebox-under center armrest lid-open trunk and look up toward the trunk light to Lt. or Rt. of light.All these are common places some dealers placed a white sticker with black numbers.The sticker will have your serial number to radio on it or it will have both five digit radio code and the serial numer.When you get the code disconnect your battery for a few seconds then reconnect it. Turn on radio and use preset buttons to type in code.......GOOD LUCK!
