  1. Not knowing vcam/pc details on firewire ports, type of vcam, process below is generalized:

    Video  Editing  Process

CAPTURE video stream-miniDV vcamX/ IMPORT files from Hdd, Dvd or Flash Media vcamY and/or pc folders, EDIT  to create muvee as a project, FINISH  (render/ save)  muvee and /or, SHARE …burn to CD/DVD.

for starters, XP/ Windows Movie Maker (wmm*) provides the simple & easy way (& free) to learn the ropes < click Help for details>. For enhanced effects, try  SpiceFx  by Pixelan,  Venture later into other video editing app ( http://video-editing-software-review.top... ) accdg. to need & skill level.

(Note: Convert video files if not supported by video editing app thru converters, try Windows Media Encoder)

    Steps:

    CAPTURE VIDEO

a.) Connect mDV vcamX to pc via firewire cable (4 or 6 pin) for good transfer (USB can do but possibly drop frames affecting quality)

b.) Set vcam mode to playback desired video, set for capture, pause

c.) Open wmm* and set to TASKS pane

d.) In wmm/ TASKS /Capture, click Capture from video device; wmm should be able to control vcam operations. On play, video stream is captured to wmm/COLLECTION (usually unto several video files)

e.) Import other files: from vcamY thru USB; vid files, pics, music, narration from pc folder

    EDIT MOVIE

f.) wmm/EDIT: drag&drop video files from collection to TIMELINE chart below at the desired sequence

g.) Enhance video: drag&drop effects- transition, filter; create titles, music…test & re-edit as you wish

    FINISH MOVIE (rendering)

h.) Render/Save video file to pc and/ or share; then Save project file (work-in-progress) for future edits.

    Finally, SHARE

i.) Burn to CD or DVD***   (wmm2 only on CD)

** Most video editing app include DVD authoring, otherwise, use DVD authoring programs, e.g.,  WinDVD, Nero, Encore, etc.

  2. you'll have to install the software that should have come with the camera.

  3. Hey Callie,

To do it, your camera should have fire wire capability (1394). If not, you will need an ADVC-100 converter to transfer the video between your computer and camcorder or VCR.

The Canopus ADVC-100 converter will carry either analog or DV in/out, to digitize the video onto your computer hard drive. There is no need to install any software, because this converter is an external device, just plug and play. Once the video footage are in the computer, you would need a video-editing program to edit your digitalize footage.

If you have a PC computer you can use Windows Movie maker, or Adobe premiere, which allows you to do all sorts of cool effects, like the Hollywood studios do. If you have a MAC computer, it come wtih imovie all ready install, if you are doing broadcast media, then Final Cut Studio is the best video editing software from MAC.
