  1. If you installed the drivers correctly, then the next step would be to open your video capturing software...Without the video capturing software, you cannot transfer footage from your miniDV cassetes to the PC...

    Examples of Video capture Sofwares:

1.Windows Movie Maker(found in all WinXP n later PCs)

    2.Ulead Video Studio

    3. Pinacle

    4. Nero too has 1 app in its suite..called Nero somethin...jus look it up in Nero Start Smart..

so then, set you camera to vcr mode....then start playing it...in your pc press d rec button once you wanna start capturing...u might need to tinker with some settings like brightness, end format and etc...

    Has this answered your question?

EDIT: It is possible to upload thro USB 2.0 also...I have a Sony video camera and i have transferred videos countless time to the PC thru USB 2.0 ....so,firewire is NOT necessary based on my understanding....

  2. you might have got a cd along with the camera for uploading the videos and photos. Find out and install. Once you connect your camera, the pc will start copying the videos and photos from the camera.

  3. a miniDV vcam must be FIREWIRE400**-connected to pc to upload video thru video capture or video editing* software while vcam is ON PLAYBACK.  Note: DV or Firewire port of vcam is 4pin. Before cable purchase** (Vcam/4pin=>firewireCABLE=>PC (4/ 6pin?), check pc for DV or firewire port, whether 4 or 6 pin. If none, install firewire card: pci for pc or pcmcia for laptop.

for starters, free Windows Movie Maker* (XP-wmm2 & Vista-wmm6) provides simple & easy way to learn the ropes < click help for details>. Upgrade to intermediate video editing applications accdg. to need & skill level

  4. If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.

  5. You have to use a firewire connection to stream the video to the PC.

USB creates a master-slave interface to the PC for copying and pasting.  You cannot copy and paste a video cassette - it hast to be streamed.  Hi-speed USB can be streamed from some camcorders, but the quality is not as good.

Firewire creates a peer to peer interface and connect through a port for streaming the video.  All Panasonic miniDV camcorders require firewire connections other than the PVGS320 (I believe).
