You go to a site, type in what you want, and they give you a torrent "address" which you then download and open in a file sharing network, most commonly LimeWire.

A crack is a patch for a game which means that you don't have to pay for the full version, the patch fools the programme into thinking that you already have paid and so offers you full access to it.

Be careful when downloading torrents, often they just lead to a virus!
