  1. The company (or the manufacturer) probably has a website.  Check there for instructions.  If it has none, get some jewel glue or even tacky white glue (like Aleene's) from a crafts supplies store and use that. Jewel glue is specially formulated to hold equally well to slick and porous surfaces, making it ideal for sticking rhinestones (slick) to cloth surfaces (porous.)  It washes well, too, I've found.

Plain old white glue (like Elmer's) is not a wise choice for this because it does not dry with any flexibility at all and can therefore crack if bent.  On a backpack, you need a glue that dries slightly flexible (like jewel glue or tacky white glue) so your glue won't crack and fall off if you put more stuff in your pack.

When gluing on unframed (no metal rim) rhinestones, I let them dry thoroughly, and then outline each rhinestone with a thin line of fabric paint.  That also helps keep them from peeling, in addition to giving a more finished look.

  2. Most rhinestones I have seen are applied by either  peeling of the paper on the back and sticking them down, or ironing them on.

If this is not an option, buy some fabric glue like E6000, or even crazy glue that now comes in a gel form, and put a little, little dot of the crazy glue gel on the fabric  and and put on your stone. Tweezers work well to keep your hands from sticking together) continue doing this until you design looks great. It will not hurt a backpack, most are made of heavy cotton,  or poplin the only time you would have to be careful is with chiffon, or a see through material. Deb
