How do i use the usb slots on my computers monitor?

I have an HP computer with a flat screen monitor which has usb slots on the left side of the monitor. When i try to plug something into it, my computer doesn't recognize anything is in there. How can i fix this???

    I'm not familiar with your particular computer but in many cases like this the USB ports have to be enabled in your BIOS. Look for instructions when you start your computer to press F2 or Delete or some other key to access your BIOS and then navigate through the screens until you find the USB settings and enable them. Then Save and Exit to continue booting up.

    Does the monitor have a USB input from the computer? If not the USB sockets will not work.

    Is one socket an input and one an output?

    Your best plan might be to download the manual from HP's web site for specific information.

    That's the best I can do at the moment.
