  1. You need to find a local one in your area and go and talk to them . They can tell you everything you need to know .

  2. You'll have to find out from your local organizations (look in the yellow pages, or call your local hospital or doctor's office who they recommend) what their requirements are. They might allow someone 14 to do office work or visitation, but I doubt if you would be allowed to do respite care (caring for the sick person while their caretaker goes out for a break).

In my community, the hospice organizations ask for a weekly commitment. It's fairly extensive, like a half day every week. I'm not sure why, but that is the reason I've not helped out there. If I can only give them occasional time, I don't want to commit to something I cannot keep.

You, being 14, are dependent for transportation and so must take that into consideration when you agree to do something. (What I'm saying is, can you bike there or are you asking someone to drive you? Make sure you aren't committing them without asking first.)

Check it out and then decide. Thank you for wanting to do something kind!

  3. Yes, anyone can be a volunteer. You just have to go in to one and ask, and if you're to shy or nervous to go in by yourself, take a friend or ring up.

    Hope this helps!

  4. My daughter is a volunteer at a local hospice. She helps with stuffing envelopes, making copies and other office work. She had to be 15 when she started. Call your local hospice and ask for their volunteer coordinator. Thank you for wanting to help. My daughter has found it to be very rewarding.
