  1. Dishwashers need to be run on a dedicated circuit... that means ONLY the dishwasher is on the circuit... so I'd avoid wiring it into a pre-existing outlet.

Basic supplies needed would be a 20 amp circuit breaker, 12-2 with ground, wire (aka 'romex') -- DONT use 14-2 wire... its a smaller diameter, and won't carry the load as well as 12-2.  And finally, you need a gang box, and if you want a wall outlet, then a 20 amp rated outlet.  You could bring the wire right up and hook it into the dishwasher itself, on some models.  To make it easy to replace though, Id install an outlet.

When measuring for the wire, don't forget you have to go up/down walls, etc.  Get extra, hehehe.

If you live in an area that requires a permit, then you most likely will have to have an electrician do this for you.

I run the circuit first... from the usage point back to the circuit panel, and do the actual hook up at the box, last.

Code requirements often state the wire has to be secured, so keep that in mind.

When in doubt, call an electrician.  Get a few estimates to compare prices and check references.  I'd also call the local inspection office to verify whether I needed a permit or not.
