  1. Turn it on and let it heat up.  Then use it to quickly go over your clothes.  Don't leave it on one spot too long or it will burn.

  2. Plug it in, let it heat up, put your clothes on an ironing board and lightly rub over clothes.

  3. depends on what kind you have. they pretty much all nowadays have a spot for you to fill up water in it so that you can steam wrinkles out. they should have differnent seetings on it so that you can pick depending on what kind of clothing you are using it on.

just keep moving it or you will burn the clothing...and that would not be good...

    best of luck

  4. Assuming you know the basics ( plug it in , put some water in the reservoir, wait for it to heat up before using ), I'll cover advanced topics.

Heat - make the heat match what you are ironing, basically really hot for cotton, and medium for everything else.

Use a hard flat surface but one that isn't dirty because the iron will burn the dirt into your cloths. an ironing board works, but another flat object covered with a clean towel will also do the trick.

Go with the grain for best results.

Don't iron areas where the clothing is bunched up. You'll iron in wrinkles!

Ironing doesn't work well until you've washed the clothing at least once. Trust me, I've bought shirts that I needed to wear on hot date and no amount of ironing would "stick" until after I washed them.

  5. Fill it with water and turn it on. you will know that its hot when you l**k your finger (get it real wet) and touch the iron real quick. If it sizzles its ready. Then run it over the wrinkles in whatever your ironing. Use even pressure and be sure not to hold it still (you'll burn the fabric).

  6. Depending on what type of cloth you're dealing with determines how you iron it.

As my mother raised me making my own clothes, here are the basics.

Most irons come with steam settings.  Cotton requires the highest heat.  Ironing a shirt or blouse will require different heat settings.  A man's shirt will (if done properly)  will require a steam setting for the cuffs and collar plus a bit of starch if desired.

As for a ladie's blouse, it will require a cooler setting.  Depends on the fabric.  DO NOT IRON SILK!   DO NOT IRON  RAYON!

Most fabrics come with a tag in the neck which tells you how to clean it and iron treatments.   Most Rayons require a Dry Cleaning.  as in take it to a D.C.

If you are ironing a skirt, you want to go with the grain and it will iron prettier.  If you are ironing a dress, be careful of any details.

If you are ironing pants, you will want to pull together the inside seams and lay them together one leg at a time lengthwise on the ironing board and put a crease in the front of them if they are dress/casual such as Khaki pants or denim dress pants.  If you are ironing a jacket,  be very careful how you do it as you can put permanent creases in where you don't want and it won't look right.

If you are ironing a delicate fabric such as a dresser cloth or scarf, lay the scarf on the ironing board,  then a single layered hand towel lengthwise on top of it and with no steam you want to glide evenly over it.  You may use a low dry or medium  setting.  Again, here, it depends on the fabric.

Hope I helped and haven't bored you but that is the proper way of ironing most anything.

You may e-mail me with any questions I haven't answered here.  I'll try to help further if I can.
