I was talking to a friend of mine about my business idea and he was very pleased with it. He told me to write a business proposal and let him know how much I would need to get it going and he would invest in my idea. How to I write a proposal and how do i know how much i might need? how do i estimate that??

  1. It sounds like you are needing to write a business plan (typically, you would write a business proposal to a potential customer... in this case your friend is a potential investor not a customer, so a business plan would be appropriate).

There are a number of resources for writing a business plan, including the US Small Business Administration (http://sba.gov ).

For some tips on writing business plans, and pointers to various resources, take a look at http://www.software-marketing-advisor.co...    It's focused on business plans for software companies, but the tips and resources are general and could probably apply to any small business.
