like an actual book? or just a short story for homework or something?

if it's for class, then you should follow the format that you were given. for short stories, maybe like start out in the middle of the story to begin with, and then start back at the beginning?

for example:

i couldn't believe my eyes. I had dreamed about this for so long, but it never occurred to me that it would come true. Standing in front of me, shining and glimmering, was my very own robotic human.

ya...

and regardless of what this story is going to be like, you always want to use a lot of description! remember, this is sci fiction! you want people to know what your talking about, and to be able to imagine it.
