Number one if you ever learned the five paragraph essay format don't use that anymore.

Number two In your introduction have a strong thesis statement that introduces the topic and your point of view. Avoid "i'm writing about" or any such variation or "i believe".

Number three: support your statements with either quotes from a book or other literary source. Don't forget to site in bibliography and in text as well using MLA format. www.citationmachine.net will help with that.

Number four: Your opening sentence or hook should draw people in and make them want to read - popular hooks include facts/statistics, quotes from book and other sources, and stories.Their are also others, use the one that suits your topic. Good Luck!
