my question is just that how do i, or you, brew a single cup of tea? i use tea bags and every time i do i make it FAR too bitter.

usually i use a single tea bag with 8oz of hot water, sometimes more depending on the tea, and let it steep for about 3mins and squeeze the bag slightly.

Thanks in advance

  1. Pour boiling water into a mug on top of the tea bag, if you take milk add it straight away, add sugar if you use it, take a spoon, swill it all around, remove the tea bag, squeeze it with the spoon over the mug and you should have a very mild cup of tea, the longer you leave the tea bag the more bitter it'll become

  2. 3 minutes is far too long - 20 seconds is about right and only squeeze if it looks too light - you can control bitterness/colour that way.

  3. Don't steep it for that long, if you steep it for a shorter amount of time then your tea won't be bitter. Also, don't squeeze the tea bag, this makes the tea stonger which results in bitter tea. There are tannins in tea and the longer you steep the more tannins you get, tannins are bitter, so your tea will be bitter. Also, higher quality teas tend to have more tannins.

  4. i like my tea really strong and leave the teabag in whist i'm drinking it. the stronger the better for me. yum!

  5. i heat up a cup(8oz,) of water in the microwave and then dip my single bag of tea in it until i get the color i like...not too light, not too dark...so it's not bitter.  then i enjoy with NO sugar added.  i try to drink tea every night after dinner.

  6. Put  your milk in the cup first and then tea bag until happy with the colour then add sugar

  7. There are two things you can do to make the tea less bitter:

    - Don't steep for more than one minute. The bitterness in the tea starts seeping out after about that time.

    - Don't use water that's too hot. If you steep in water that's boiling, the tea will get scalded right away, making it bitter instantly. Let the water sit for a few minutes before you steep in it, or mix a little cold tapwater in it.

(As for how I do it: I only drink loose leaf tea. It tastes much better and gives you a lot more options regarding flavor. )
