Question:

How do increase my 10 year old son's speed?

My son is already one of the faster kids on the football team (top 5), but his form is so jacked up, but I believe he could be so much faster. 1) He takes off with his lead foot, and to me that slows him down. It so natural for him to run like that, he believes that it does not slow him down because he has been running like that his whole life. 2) When I try to correct the first problem, I make him get on tippy toes, and make his non-lead foot be the first foot to move, but he makes his non-lead foot go from tippy toe to flat before he takes off, and I think that slows him down. 3) he is the tallest person on the team, and probably takes the smallest steps than anyone on the team. He is still fast, but I think if I can correct those problem, he can be blazing fast. Any advice?

  1. wtf. i dont get it. gahhhhhhhhhhhhhh fucket

  2. Try and get him to lengthen his strides by doing an exercise where he runs a certain distance using strides where he extends his legs fully.  Also, when he starts running, his front foot may be slipping back as he takes off.

  3. He is only 10.

    Let the boy grow up.

He might not even be interested in sports in a couple years.

He may even hate them if you force it on him.

  4. He is 10.  Let him play and have fun.  Teach him football techniques.  When he gets older and if football might be a way for him to get into college or something then you can work on running technique.
