How do it I disconnect an unused security system?

We had a security system for 5 years. We discontinued the service a year ago, but the equipment is still connected to the phone and electric outlet. Is there a way to disconnect the box without setting it off?

Disconnect it from the phone line first.  Then disconnect the battey.  Last, unplug it.  It might make a little noise but can't call out if the phone line is disconnected.  When you disconnect the battery it might beep warning of a low battery condition but it shouldn't alarm because of that.  Even if it does it should stop when you unplug it.  If it has sirens you can disconnect them after disconnecting the phone line but before removing the battery and unplugging it.
