  1. they dont celebrate, they honor the dead

  2. I think you mean 'commemorate' rather than celebrate.

  3. "Celebrate" is a wrong word to use. They honour and commemorate those who died when the bombs fell or from after-effects of it. After all, there were no winners on 6th and 9th August 1945.

Prayers and minute's silence are observed on anniversaries for those who dies, and in Hiroshima the mayor traditionally makes a speech to continue voicing Hirosima's opposition to nuclear weapon being possessed by any nation.

They also hold a Tōrō nagashi (灯籠流し), it's a Japanese ceremony in which floating paper lanterns with lit candle are released onto the river; each lantern representing the soul of the victims.

  4. It's a day in which they honor the dead.

My take on it is that they visit temples, their dead relatives (ones who died on Hiroshima Day) alters, and areas of religious significance.

If you want to know some Japanese rituals (not always "celebrated" <-- not the right word) on this day, but they do things such as:

-Sticking their chopsticks into rice (NEVER do that while eating in Japan!!)

    -Burn incence

    -Praying

Just to give you an idea of what may go on. :) The Japanese are very ritual-oriented people. So they may do something else special on this day.

Hope you find this to be helpful!!

  5. Both the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki hold memorial services and peace rallies on the anniversaries of the atomic bombings.  These events draw a large number of Japanese as well as international anti-war supporters.

  6. Forgive me to write bellow only today, just before the day of Hiroshima.

I don't want to raise an argument, but I have been always curious why do students in the U.S. seems to not learn about the one-side genocide for non-armed people made by the U.S. Only two bomb killed over 200,000 people including children, mothers, olds and disabled persons at the days in 1945.

Is U.S. government don't teach you and keep secret about that?

Do you truely know what happens in there?

Do you believe, or made to believe by someone else, bombing nuclear weapon was necessarily to bring a peace for mighty United States that already occupied Okinawa and already totally destroyed many cities like Tokyo and Osaka by bombing on that time, August in 1945?

The days 6th and 9th Aug. are not for celebrate, even, or should I say "especially", if you are an American.

Today, Japanese never curse Americans and believe originaly it is caused by our fault from the heart.

It's obvious and no room to argument.

But as a Japanese, it is always feel me strange that many American young people seems to know second to nothing about what happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, compared with Japanese students always taught many malicious act Japan made in China or other Asian countries in their juniour high and high schools.

(I know this - if the Japanese student learn about Japanese invasion during the first half of the last century or not - is also raise an argure in here many times, and some people in other contries seems to believe they are not.

    but truth is like this:

many stupid students who are fashonated with American culture and wanted to go to America or Canada tend to study English hard, up to late everynight, and have a sleep in the class of Japanese history, because they think it's dull, even in the classes their teachers teaching them Japanese Impariolism with ardor. An average students in Japan learn much about Japan's bad deed around 1930-1940s.

If you can't believe what I write, please read many text books used in Japan. We can sellect many textbooks and subreaders althogh our government checks them  (only textbooks, not for subreaders)  if the textbooks tell student correct things.)
