  1. Jeans are measured by the width of the waist in inches and sometimes the length too, eg I am a waist 25 length 34, and my regular size is a UK size 6-8. :)

  2. When trying on jeans remember these three rules: sizing, proportion, and the rear view.

Unlike men’s clothing, women’s clothing doesn’t adhere to standard sizing. When shopping for clothing, especially jeans, you may be dealing with junior’s, missy, sizing by waist, and vanity sizing. Junior styles are cut slimmer through the waist and thigh, and missy is a bit fuller in those areas. Junior sizes are sized via odd numbers, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and so on. Missy is sized by even numbers, 2, 4, 6, 8, and so on. Waist sizes are 25, 26, 27, and 28 and so on. Theoretically jeans sized by waist do correspond to a regular size. For example, a size 8 (missy) is a size 7 (junior) and a 29 inch waist. But then there’s vanity sizing.
