How do l get the volume icon off my computer screen?

it,s in the right corner off my screen and l can,t seem to get it off..if you can help thanks.

for sound vol,  icon,

Go to control panel

sounds and audio devices

un-check place my volume icon on taskbar

press ok

if it is shortcut of icon  from  sounds and audio devices, in control panel,on desktop screen,

rightclick over it and click delete.

For mounted volume icons on desktop,

Start gconf-editor, in terminal or with ALT+F2 run application window. Find /apps/nautilus/desktop and check out volumes_visible!

if you are using XP .. then go to control panel ... and then .. multi media and audio device .. there you should see one option checked .. "show volume icon in taskbar"' .. uncheck it ... and you are done  !!!
