How do l know What to order in a Very Posh Restaurant?

You might consider visiting the on-line site for that restaurant prior to going there, and checking out a listing of the menu items there.

What type of cuisine?

When I am in a new restaurant, I will often pick anything with a word I recognize. Pasta and chicken are safe choices.

The idea of a posh restaurant is the standard of service is there to accomodate you. The waiting staff are always going to be far more familiar with the menu and better equipped to provide you with menu options that is to your taste. If you were to order a meal that isn't to your liking they'd see it as a failure on their behalf. If you order a meal and not understand the choices and not ask questions you're going to look much more stupid than if you do ask and get something you enjoy. It is part of their job after all.

Um...it's exactly the same as ordering in any other restaurant.  You read the menu, decide what sounds good, and then order it.

If you don't know what something is, you have a couple options.  The first is to simply ignore it, and don't order it.  The other is to ask what it is...if you're afraid that will make you look stupid (which I don't agree with), then default back to option #1.

lol I know how you feel Personally I ask the server what would you suggest. I used to work at Ruth's Chris Steak House and our servers were trained to tell the most popular items :) They will ususally give you their favorite dish as well for ideas:)

If you can't say it, don't order it!!! LOL Ask the waiter what the best dishes there are there, they will give recommendations.

A waiter/server should give you recommendations at a posh restaurant ....... many times you can look at the menu on line before you go ....... just pick what sounds good to you ....... if it is a date, don't order the most expensive dish on the menu ..... its bad taste to do that ....... = )
