How do lawyers from foreign countries gain the right to practice in the UK?

My girlfriend is an experienced lawyer but shes not a UK citizen(shes Turkish).How can she become qualified to practice law in the UK? Would she simply have to do a full degree again at a UK uni?

  1. Turkish Law degree holder can do Bar-at-law exams in UK & then it shouldn't be a problem to be a Barrister. Otherwise they will have to do UK degree, the students will get credits for some modules that are recognised by some universities in UK.


  2. I think that some countries' law degrees are recognized by the Law Society and the Bar Council, while others' aren't. I think she'd have to make specific enquiries with whichever governing body is appropriate.

  3. Most probably as British law is different to Turkish Law.
