Question:

How do lawyers sleep at night knowing they represent criminals?

We are the victims of two con-artists.

An example of our evidence: They claimed that we never paid them for a business deal (even though we have over $30,000 in cancelled checks with their endorsements on the backs). We have witnesses that saw them breaking our contract through certain actions...and much much more.

However, their attorney did some type of legal manuvering and got most of our evidence thrown out in court and the judge ruled for them. The long story made short: We now have to pay the criminals.

So how can you people sleep at night knowing that proof existed that proved the scum you represented was guilty but you did something that you knowingly caused harm to the innocent people involved and let the criminals go free?????

  1. thats horrible.those lawyers and the criminals are horrible

  2. I think lawyers have sociopathic tendencies.  I sympathize with your situation.  A small company for which I was doing some consulting work several years ago hired a temp receptionist from a staffing firm.  The temp ended up endorsing a 30K check to herself.  Unfortunately, a numbnuts who worked there let the staffing firm owner talk him into pursuing it as a bank error.  Once I found out I called BS and rang up the staffing firm owner and told her to pay up.  Her lawyer called me back and said no deal, since the moron at the company agreed that he would deal with it as a bank problem.  I turned it over to the company's attorneys to pursue and don't know the final resolution.  Point is that when it came time for the staffing firm to man up and take responsibility, it found a scumbag attorney to deflect.

  3. Sounds more like a rant to me.  As you well know, everyone is entitled to legal representation.  The guy is probably guilty - his attorney is there for damage control..

  4. If you leave your situation to the side...

Criminals are the FIRST ones to need a lawyer. Any way you go.. the whole system is based on the right to be heard and present your "side". If you read any news, you will hear about the many convicted "criminals" in Texas, and elsewhere.. that are now being freed, since DNA tests PROVE they were not guilty at all.  Persons accused of any crime HAVE TO HAVE legal representation, to be sure that they are not convicted falsely (and even that does happen).

I am not going to tell you that what happened to you was right. That is not my point. I agree that there are evil lawyers out there.  I also agree that the evil lawyer MIGHT be the one you had, who failed to make sure that your evidence or proof, was presented and not thrown out.  All of us know people like you, who may have a completely valid case, and still wind up losing, due to one lawyer being better than the other, and poor representation, even on the "truth" side.

  5. This is the U. S. Justice System in action.  I am not saying it is perfect, but it is better than any other justice system in the free world.  The law says everyone is entitled to a defense, and any attorney that does not do the best they can to protect their client's interests is guilty of malpractice.

As to how they sleep at night, obviously their moral standards are not quite up to what they could be, but if you were their client and you were innocent, wouldn't you want your lawyer to do their best?

    P. S. -  You needed a better attorney to represent you.

  6. many people charged with crimes are not guilty.

Thet deserve a defense,  just like you would want a defense if you were falsely accused.

  7. Know that saying, "It's just business"? They did their job, they try to put it out of their minds, and they go about life as usual. It's a wonder more lawyers don't get shot. To be a great lawyer you'd have to have no conscience or be able to talk yourself into believing it's just your job and that you can't take any of it personally. As much as victims of any crime hate this and as unfair as it is, criminals have rights too. Sometimes I think the law favors criminals and sweeps victims under the rug so to speak. It might be a money thing where the con artists could afford lawyers who manipulated the law in favor of their clients. As rotten as it is, sometimes that's just how it works out. Yeah, justice is blind, but if you grease her palms with enough dough she might not care who she's helping.

  8. Most lawyers would pull the gold teeth out of their grandmother and Mothers and fathers. Lawyers have about zero ethics. All they care about is political pull, money in the bank, and their houses and cars and affairs.

  9. Judges apply the law.

All the lawyer does is present the evidence. If your "evidence" was ruled inadmissible in court then that is your fault - or your lawyers fault - for not introducing it properly in the first place. Don't blame the other parties lawyer because you didn't prepare your case properly.

Remember, their lawyer knows only what they told him.

If they claimed, for example, that you forged those checks then he's obligated to assume they are telling him the truth and do what he can to get them excluded. If they were genuine, then you can prove that by, again for example, getting certified copies directly from the bank.
