It's a good idea to buy some books on drawing and anatomy, or get some from a library, and practice using them as much as you can. Trial-and-error drawing isn't much good - you have to be learning from something. Use references wherever you can, too - photographs, etc - for drawing poses and such, as they will help you learn. Google image search is a good resource, as are stock photo websites like http://www.istockphoto.com .

ehow.com has some good articles about drawing, but I'm not sure how much you could learn by going online, since learning to draw is a tactile process. At least in my case reading never really taught me much about HOW to draw, only the techniques :) but one thing that helped me to draw people's faces was to get a picture on my computer and then put a piece of paper over the screen and trace just the most basic outlines, like the face shape and where the nose ended and the eyelids and hairline, and then take it down and use the real picture to fill in all the rest and shade it. Once I got used to drawing the features I could concentrate on practicing to put them where they belonged without a lightbox or computer screen. It worked pretty quickly for me and now I have everyone asking me to draw their families :)

This video series is quite good, its called the 'Structure of Man' and there's a huge amount of video tutorials. You have to scroll back quite a bit to find the beginning, but its a good start and is very comprehensive. I used to use them a while ago.

The best way to learn to draw the human figure though is by going to life drawing classes, you learn to 'see' properly and can train your eye. If you can't get to a life drawing class try going on a website such as flickr.com and practice drawing from photographs. Also go to your local library and check out books on human anatomy.

If you want to progress quickly I would suggest drawing everyday, and taking a sketchbook with you where ever you go, draw people in the street. The more you practice the quicker you will progress.
